Why Missions?

Boat Based

Thank you for your interest in our Boat Based mission trips. Unfortunately, this option is currently not available as we have transitioned all of our mission trips to our Land Based model.

This transition took place in the Fall of 2010 as we responded to the changing needs and interest of our mission communities and volunteers

  • Mission Communities - It was shared and asked through numerous requests, for our teams to be in the communities for longer periods of time.
  • Mission Volunteers - The interests of the mission volunteers shifted as they to sought to spend as much time as possible in one mission community to share the gospel and deepen relationships. This challenged our historical boat based model that we were currently using, whereby we would spend a few days in one community and make multiple stops during the week to various inlets, marinas, and small isolated areas.
  • In response to both the community and teams needs, in 2009-2010, we re-arranged our boat schedule, allowing us to spend as much time as possible, ministering and serving the communities.

In 2011, the BC Mission Boat Society's Executive Director and Board of Directors evaluated the changing interests and increased opportunity for longer periods of ministry, by seeking to find the best way to make this possible. Based on the changes that were made in 2009-2010, it was observed that we were no longer using the Mission Boat as it was originally designed. In the end, it was decided that we could respond to the changing interests and increased opportunities by focusing our ministry by using our existing Land Based model.

It is important to mention, that this decision did not come lightly or easily. It was ultimately through prayer and discernment that this decision was strategically made.

Many have asked if there was a financial element to this decision. As with all our decisions, there is a financial element as we seek to use the financial gifts that God has given us through our donors and supporters in the most dynamic and responsible means possible. Having said this, it was by no means the driving force for this strategic decision, but rather, the ministry needs of the communities we work with and the volunteers who join us that drove this decision.
